YORKSHIRE grit proved too tough for the Scots at Catterick’s Highland Games as soldiers battled it out in a series of traditional events.
The second annual Games, held at the Leyburn Stadium, saw Yorkshire-recruited Troopers from the Royal Dragoon Guards beat the organisers, The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland by three points.
Enthusiastic spectators watched the participants compete against each other throwing the bale and the hammer, hurling the stone, tossing the caber and various strong-man events.
All ranks took part in the track and field events and the Games closed with a tug of war contest won by the Highlanders.
Lieutenant Colonel Neil Tomlin, the Commanding Officer of 4 Scots said: “It is important for us to bring our soldiers together for a light-hearted, fun day with some good-natured competition and to be surrounded by our friends and families.”
