TROOPS from all regiments based at Catterick Garrison are being given the chance to pit themselves against their Scottish comrades in the second annual Highland Games..

The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) first held the event in 2016 following their return from Germany.

That competition was between the Highlanders only but this year it has been opened to all Catterick soldiers to test their skills in a range of traditional Scottish sports.

To cope with the dozens of extra teams, the Games have been moved to a much bigger venue at the Leyburn Road athletics stadium in the garrison where there is also a large stand for visitors.

Major Harry Hood, organiser, said: “It is fantastic to be able to invite everyone to the Games and to be able to hold them at the big stadium. It will also be very challenging to the soldiers from The Highlanders to be able to take on teams from outside the regiment. The outcomes of the individual contests should prove very interesting.”

The event starts at midday on Wednesday, September 13.
