CONCERNS over water quality at Britain’s largest Army garrison have been allayed after suppliers said tests had found no problems with quality.

At one point bottled water was reportedly being distributed while tests were carried out after residents on the Allanby Estate at Catterick Garrison reported foul tasting water.

The issue was highlighted on social media with people reporting animals had been sick and residents saying they had been feeling unwell.

Water on the Garrison is supplied through Severn Trent Business Services as opposed to Yorkshire Water which maintains supplies in residential areas across most parts of the region.

Carillion Amey which manages and maintains housing for the Ministry of Defence, and works with Severn Trent received several complaints on Friday and Saturday which were investigated by the water company.

At one point on social media, residents were being advised to drink only bottled water and there were reports of residents rallying round offering to collect and deliver supplies to people who could not leave their homes.

On Monday morning a spokeswoman for Severn Trent said investigations had been carried out into the water quality and they had come back completely clear.

She said tests had been carried out at homes where problems had been reported on Saturday and all the tests had come back clear, with no problems.

She added: “We also carry out regular sampling and these have all been clear, there have been rumours on social media but we can assure residents the samples are fine and we will be continuing to monitor."
