AN ARMY veteran was killed by a single blow to the heart with a small kitchen knife, a court has been told.

The body of 34-year-old Craig Guy was found last Thursday at The Beacon, in Marne Road, Catterick Garrison, a hostel which supports convalescing soldiers, where he was a resident.

Fellow resident Ian McLaughlin appeared at Teesside Crown Court, in Middlesbrough, via a video link to Hull Prison, charged with Mr Guy’s murder.

The 51-year-old, who wore a grey sweatshirt and glasses, answered “Yes Sir” as he was addressed by The Recorder of Middlesbrough, Judge Simon Bourne-Arton.

No plea was entered during the hearing and McLaughlin was remanded back into custody.

The judge said there would be a further hearing held on July 10, ahead of an estimated eight day trial in September.
