WORK will resume on a 12-mile stretch of the A1 near Catterick after the Christmas break with the speed limit returning to 50mph from Sunday, January 8.
Over the Christmas period, the speed limit had been increased through the roadworks from 50mph to 60mph as part of a trial to explore other ways of keeping drivers moving when roadworks are ongoing.
As from Sunday, the speed limit of 50mph will be reintroduced as workers start back on site to create a new three lane motorway as part of the £380m Highways England project.
The speed limit is in place for the safety of drivers and for the safety of the workforce who are working close to the roadside.
