A LONG-serving member of the Scouting movement has been recognised for her service and dedication to the organisation.

Audrey McConnell, from Catterick Garrison, first started scouting when she was part of a service family in Germany in the 1970s. Her husband Andy ran the scout group and she took charge of the cubs. On returning to the UK, the couple jointly ran a group in Stainton, Middlesbrough, for six years and in 1986 Mrs McConnell became part of Richmondshire Scouts.

She is currently Group Scout Leader at Catterick Garrison which has cubs, scouts and beavers.

To recognise more than 40 years of service, Mrs McConnell was presented with a certificate of loyal service by the North Yorkshire Scout Commissioner Sarah McAtominey, which was signed by Chief Scout and TV adventurer, Bear Grylls.
