YOUNGSTERS who raised almost £500 after learning a fun dance routine have presented it to a Help for Heroes rehabilitation centre.
Barton Cubs learnt the Waka Waka – a dance made famous by pop star Shakira for the 2010 Fifa World Cup – and chose to donate the £456 raised from sponsorship to Phoenix House in Catterick Garrison.
Cubs leader Christine Chilton suggested the centre as a beneficiary, as a close friend is a member of staff at the recovery centre which works with wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
After the fundraising event, 22 cubs took the donation to the Catterick Garrison centre, where youngsters and young leaders were met by staff members Gill Grainge and Rob Hood.
After an introductory talk on the military and the charity’s work the cubs were given a VIP tour followed by a drink and some biscuits.
Ms Grainge said: “A big thank you to Barton Cubs; without the support of the public we could not do this vital work as we rely totally on generous donations.”
