FOOTAGE of a car overtaking vehicles at 130mph on the A1M by steering onto the central reservation is to be shown on TV on Monday.

All New Traffic Cops on Channel 5 showed the vehicle travelling at terrifying speed through the roadworks on the southbound carriageway at Leeming in North Yorkshire.

The vehicle can be seen sending debris flying through the air as it overtakes vehicles using the gutter of the central reservation, as well as undertaking on the hard shoulder.

Traffic sergeant Julian Pearson says on the television’s commentary: "This guy drives straight through the cones and gets cones stuck under his front wheel when there's roadworkers there, and he's doing 130 through the roadworks which is a 50, so he's almost triple the speed limit."

  • The footage appears in All New Traffic Cops on Channel 5 at 8pm, Monday, November 14, the show having transferred from its original home on BBC1.
