THE SOUND of pipes and drums in Catterick Garrison have hailed the arrival of the Highland Games for the first time.
The Highlanders, 4th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland arrived on Thursday (July 7) for the annual games in Bourlon Lines, Munster Barracks.
An enthusiastic audience watched the teams take part in all the traditional games including throwing bale, hurling the stone, tossing the caber, the strong-man, track & field and much more all culminating in the tug of war contest.
The 4 SCOTS pipes and drums also ran the annual piping competition.
Lieutenant Colonel Leigh Drummond, Commanding Officer of 4 SCOTS, presented a host of individual prizes before announcing that Support Coy was the 2016 Highland Games winners.
He said: “Now we have run our first event in Catterick, we very much hope that we can build on this year’s success and encourage more people to be involved next year."
