A NURSING home in Catterick Garrison has launched a new social club to create community links and to help tackle loneliness in the local elderly population.

The club, dubbed the Silver Social, will meet once a month at Rosedale nursing home in Catterick Road and will feature a varied programme of activities and entertainment for attendees to take part in.

Attendees can sign up to be notified by post, telephone or email with details of the next club gathering and the activities and entertainment that will be available on the day.

The first club meeting, which is free to attend, will be take place on Wednesday, April 13 from 2pm to 4pm and will feature a ‘getting to know you’ coffee morning, with refreshments and cakes.

As well as inviting people from the local community to attend, the team at the home is also extending an invitation to community groups, organisations and charities who would like to get involved with the monthly club.

Ruth Sunter, manager at Rosedale, said: “No matter your age it’s always fun to try something new so we like to offer a wide range of activities, entertainment and events for our residents.

"We thought that launching the Silver Social would be an excellent way for residents to meet new people and also provide a great way for the elderly in our community to make new friends and socialise.”
