POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl was hit by a bus.

The girl was taken to hospital following the incident happened near the Richmond Road and Hipswell Road roundabout, in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, but her injuries were not thought to be serious.

The bus involved in the incident was operated by Arriva.

Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East, said “We can confirm that an Arriva bus was involved in an incident with a pedestrian at White Shops in Catterick.

"The pedestrian was taken from the scene in an ambulance. There have been no other reported injuries.

"Safety is always our top priority, we will be conducting a full investigation to establish exactly what happened"

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "Yorkshire Ambulance Service received a call at 2.42pm reporting a pedestrian being hit by a bus. We sent an ambulance, and conveyed a female patient to Darlington Memorial Hospital."

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said the girl was not believed to have been seriously injured.
