SOLDIERS from the last Royal Military Police Regiment based in Germany have been carrying their regimental flag across Europe for the last few days before moving into their new home in Catterick Garrison.

Headed by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Mark John, the 14 soldiers from the 1st Regiment Royal Military Police (1 RMP) have completed a sponsored 750 mile march across Europe and the UK to mark their withdrawal from Germany.

The challenging exercise, called Redcap Ruckweg - German for return - was a test of leadership, teamwork and mental endurance, as well as fitness, navigation and motivation.

The exercise was completed within eight days by a team drawn from across the Regiment with the Headquarters, 110, 150 and 243 Provost Companies.

The team visited 1 RMP’s four remaining locations in Germany before making their way to Calais, and each eight-mile section was completed in around two hours carrying a weight of 17kg.

At the end of the exercise the regimental flag was raised at the new headquarters in Gaza Barracks on Friday, June 26, and the RMP’s Provost Marshall, Brigadier Bill Warren lead the ceremony.
