AN Army officer is taking to two wheels for an epic ride to raise funds for blind former servicemen and women.
Major David Racey, 39, from Brompton-on-Swale, is hoping to complete 100 miles in less than six hours when he takes part in the Prudential RideLondon–Surrey 100 on August 2.
Currently stationed at Catterick Garrison, he joined the Army in 1994 and has done operational tours in numerous countries for the Royal Logistics Corps.
“I chose to ride for Blind Veterans UK because I believe their work is nothing less than phenomenal. Sight loss is a huge challenge for a veteran to overcome,” he said.
He registered for Prudential RideLondon after seeing the event on TV last year and was lucky enough to get a ballot place.
“It’s an amazing event,” he said.
“There’s no other race in the world where you can finish, drop your bike off, and watch pros like Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish come in on the route you’ve just done.
“RideLondon also finishes on the Mall in central London – that’s pretty special and helps with motivation.”
