A BOWLS club is desperately seeking new members to avoid having to close for good.

Mike Fox, from Scotton Bowling Club, near Catterick Garrison, said he had been involved with the club for about 15 years but because numbers have dropped to about seven regular players, he has had to temporarily stop the meetings.

He said: “It’s a shame because it is good fun and we are more of a social club than a really serious bowls club.

“It’s good light exercise and we all enjoy it – but we really need about 10 members to make it work. “With 10 players we can have a break in between turns.”

“Most members are pensioners but we welcome people of all ages and abilities.”

He added: “There’s always more for young people to do than older people – but we need people to use the club in order for it to keep going.

“It’s a good social occasion and don’t take the game too seriously so newcomers don’t need to worry about not having played before.”

When running, the club meets at Scotton Village Hall on Thursdays from 9.30am until 11.30am – call Mr Fox on 01748-833633 for more information and to arrange membership.
