A DRIVER has been airlifted to hospital with suspected serious injuries after crashing into the central reservation on the A1, near Catterick.
North Yorkshire Police said the incident involved a single vehicle at 2.30pm on the northbound carriageway.
The Great North Air Ambulance has taken the driver to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
A spokeswoman for the force said the crash had led to large amounts of congestion in the area, and motoriss have reported that a section of the road has been closed.
The section of road, which is being upgraded to a motorway, has a 50mph restriction.
Police appealed for witnesses to call 101.
