PEOPLE in the Catterick area are being asked for their input into a piece of art commissioned for the new town development.

Artist Raphael Daden is creating a sculpture for the seating area at the Garrison shopping and leisure scheme and wants to incorporate words into its base to reflect local people’s views.

Members of the Garrison Area Partnership – who will be coming up with their own ideas – have now asked local people to think about short and meaningful words.

“I am delighted so many people from the garrison parishes are being engaged in this process – we hope to see some inspirational ideas and words coming forward,” said partnership chair, Helen Grant.

“I have already got my own thinking cap on. It will be wonderful to have a lasting tribute to the people of Catterick in this new development.”

Members of the partnership have also discussed Coronation Park and the potential to deliver a community project there with the support of developers Kier.

The group also heard about an employment day on April 16 at Catterick Leisure Centre, where retailers from the town centre development will be on hand to discuss the range of job opportunities available there.

Any suggestions for the wording for the public art should be sent to Chloe Lewis at chloe.lewis@richmondshire.gov.uk or 01748 901038 by April 7.
