A GRUELLING fitness challenge for the public based on part of the famous P Company selection test for the Parachute Regiment will take place this month.

Paras’ 10 will be held in the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick Garrison, is open to individuals and teams of four, and will take place at 11am on Sunday, August 31, with all proceeds going to the Army Benevolent Fund and the Parachute Regiment Charity.

This year will also feature a special two mile Paras’ 2 for children aged between eight and 14 as long as they are accompanied by an adult. There is even a category for those competing with a dog.

As well as the races there will be children’s activities, refreshments and military re-enactments to make it a family day out.

The 2014 Paras’ 10 will be in its seventh year since being revived in Catterick in 2008 and has been an outstanding success with runners raising more than £250,000 for military charities.

The event will feature two new races: a running race where runners tackle a straight 10 mile run in trainers; and the P Company Challenge, where individuals and teams attempt to complete the course carrying a 35lb rucksack and wearing military boots in under one hour and 50 minutes – the pass time for P Company.
