NORTH-East tourism bosses are asking people to celebrate the area’s claims to fame by nominating them for a place in a new hall of fame.

Visit England is launching a hall of fame to showcase what England has given the world and the Northern Tourism Alliance is encouraging North-Easterners to get involved.

Members of the public can make nominations in the following categories: The Great, The Good and The Notorious; Inventions and Discoveries; Food and Drink; History and Heritage; Culture and Entertainment; and Sport and Leisure.

Shortlists will be drawn up and put to a public vote.

Melanie Sensicle, chief executive of Visit County Durham, said: “The Hall of Fame is a great opportunity for the people of Durham to tell the world why the county and the wider region is such a diverse and fascinating area to visit and explore.”

The deadline for nominations is Sunday, March 23. The public vote winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 23.
