A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl who was left fighting for her life after a three-car collision on the A1 remains in a serious condition in hospital.

North Yorkshire Police said the girl sustained severe head injuries in the collision at 10.37pm on Saturday (January 11), on the northbound carriageway of the A1, north of Barton, near Darlington.

It involved a black Vauxhall Tigra which collided with the central barrier before coming to a rest in the carriageway. It was then hit by a black Peugeot 407 travelling in the same direction.

The girl, who had been travelling in the Peugeot and the driver of the Vauxhall Tigra, a woman in her 20s from the Sunderland area who also sustained serious injuries, are being treated at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

The driver and front seat passenger of the Peugeot, a man and a woman in their forties sustained minor injuries and two other children were uninjured. All occupants of the Peugeot are from Watford, in Hertfordshire.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw either vehicles travelling northbound on the A1 before or during the collision to call 101 or email neil.cholmondeley@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
