STUDENTS had the chance to put their MP on the spot when he turned up for a lesson in citizenship.

Year 9 pupils from Bedale High School grilled Rishi Sunak, their MP in the Richmond constituency, on a wide range of issues when he went to the school to catch up with the voters of the future. Teachers said the youngsters quizzed him on the main topics of the day including Brexit, immigration, the voting age, young people's needs and whey he entered politics as well as what he did before becoming an MP and what he liked most about life in Westminster.

Mr Sunak said afterwards: “The pupils were really bright and engaged and had a lot of pertinent questions about my life as MP, both in London and here in the constituency.”

The MP also spoke at an assembly of Year 9 and 10 pupils before meeting headteacher Tony Rawdin and chair of governors Gerry Price. Mr Sunak met with representatives of business group Brand Bedale to discuss links with the school and moves to help students with apprenticeships and preparing for the world of work.
