A SCHOOL's football team has become its first team to be named county champions since it opened in 1957.
Bedale High School U15 squad beat off competition from youngsters from York, Richmond, Ripon and Harrogate.
PE teacher Jon Bielby said: "The day will live long in my memory. To become county champions as underdogs is remarkable and our students showed real determination, camaraderie and ability throughout the competition.
"I feel so proud to work with this special group of students who have been a pleasure to work with and who have represented their school with distinction."
Former head of PE Martyn Coombs added: "The squad gels together to create this really special team. It has been a long time coming and I am delighted that Bedale High School can now be called county champions."
