A FORMER railway carriage temporarily became Hogwarts Express, when a celebration of all things Harry Potter took place.

The ex-British Rail rolling stock, which was recently renovated and turned into a community hub at Leeming Bar took on yet another guise recently, for a Harry Potter Book Night.

The event was organised by North Yorkshire Youth and other local volunteers for members of St Gregory’s Youth Club from Crakehall and other local young people.

Activities included a screening of Fantastic Beasts and Where the Find Them, wand-making, a range of magical books on offer from the North Yorkshire County Council Library service and other activities.

The old carriage has been restored by a team of volunteers from the Leeming Bar Residents’ Association (LBRA) and fully kitted out with a mini-cinema with Blu-ray DVD player and surround sound, mini-library, kitchen, wi-fi, flexible seating for 30 and wheelchair access.

Funding came from North Yorkshire County Council’s Stronger Communities Fund, The National Lottery, as well as two local businesses, ABP Wessex and Froneri who have made significant donations.

To set up more youth events, Leeming Bar Community Hub are currently looking for adult volunteers to get involved. NYY will provide all volunteers with the appropriate checks and any training. Please contact NYY on 01845-522145 for more information.
