A HOST of over 1,100 heavenly angels have descended on a North Yorkshire town with a special plea to people to give them a home for Christmas.

The problem is, while hundreds of Christmas angels have been knitted for churches across Bedale and Aiskew, with the aim of spreading messages of peace, hope and love for Christmas, other knitted articles, have already been put up around the town as part of the Christmas decorations.

So Methodist Minister Rev Kathleen Wood, doesn’t want people to get them mixed up and take home the wrong ones.

She said: “We don’t want people getting mixed up and trying to untie some of the decorations.

“The church angels are easily untied and have a label on saying they are free and asking people to take them home.

“They all have messages of hope and peace and love for Christmas.

“We just want people to take them home and maybe give one to people who can’t get out of their house or for neighbours. It’s just a way of encouraging people to really think about Christmas.

“We want to spread a bit of a Christmas message, that it isn’t all about eating and shopping,” she added.

A team of angel distributors went out in the early hours of Thursday December 21, and they’re expecting the angels to be gone before Christmas. They have been put up across Bedale town centre, and in the streets up to the primary school.

“Please, please take them home, because we don’t want them to be left out in the cold, but remember not to take the decorations, they need to stay,” added Rev Wood.
