A MEALS on wheels service providing vital help for elderly people is marking its second anniversary after serving up over 6,300 meals.

Bedale Community meals on wheels was set up by Diane Hosking in the church’s Chantry Hall and has gone from strength to strength with 60 volunteers providing up to 30 meals a day in the town and surrounding villages. They’re now appealing for more volunteers to ensure the future of the service.

Mrs Hosking said: "We are a non-profit organisation that exists to help those in Bedale and the surrounding area who are elderly or homebound to maintain their independence and dignity by delivering cost effective, nutritional meals through caring volunteers. One way we maintain our non-profit status is by offering a month of free meals to clients.”

Rector of Bedale, Rev Ian Robinson added: "The work they undertake is outstanding and offers company and nourishment, physical and emotional to clients." To help call 01677 470232.
