A NEW Co-op store has opened following a £480,000 investment and the creation of 15 new jobs.
The store, on Leeming Lane in Leeming Bar, has also pledged to support local community groups through the Co-op’s new membership scheme which sees one per cent of own-brand sales donated to community causes.
The groups chosen to benefit from the scheme are Aiskew Under Fives, Bedale Hall, and Bedale Community Bus.
Sarah Carrick, Co-op store manager said: “The Co-op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to be making such a significant investment in Leeming Bar – the new store looks great and it really is an exciting time for the whole team.”
Dave Wilding, Co-op area manager, added: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum.
“The return to our ‘clover leaf’ design logo – first used in the 1960s – aims to re-establish the Co-op as a centre for the community, and we want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op.”
