THE growing phenomenon of yarn bombing has now reached the market town of Bedale.

The people of the town woke on Thursday to find their community had taken on a very seasonal touch - with many signs and bollards decorated with colourful woolly Easter bonnets.

Through the hours of darkness, a new group of yarn bombers calling themselves the Ninja Knitters took to the streets to decorate the town for Easter and the start of the tourist season.

And to preserve their anonymity the covert team kept their faces well hidden under ninja-style masks.

Their efforts were welcomed. “I salute the work of this amazingly dedicated, secret group,” said local ward member Councillor John Noone, who is also the chairman of Hambleton District Council.

“Bedale is a most attractive historic market town and we are delighted they have chosen us as a target for their activities.

“We are ready for the new tourist season and these yarn bombing decorations will add interest to the town for visitors at this key time.”
