RAF Leeming personnel endured blood, sweat and blisters during a gruelling laden walk to raise funds for an inspirational woman.
Kate Ann Douglas has been living with cancer for six years, after being diagnosed just two weeks after the birth of her daughter, Lola.
With hopes for treatment in the UK now exhausted, Ms Douglas has turned to the successful Hallwang Clinic in Germany - where treatments cost around £250,000.
Former school-mate Sgt Jonathan ‘Goldie’ Graham, based at RAF Leeming, heard about Ms Douglas’ fund-raising efforts and decided to do something as part of a navigational exercise.
Over the course of three days, the RAF Leeming team walked around 25 miles a day, each carrying between 60-80lbs and sleeping under the stars in freezing temperatures
Sgt Graham said: “Kate Ann has already raised around £190,00, which is amazing. We just want to do our bit and will be delighted if we can get to £3,000. We had been looking to raise some money during the exercise, and this seemed like the perfect cause.”
