HIGH ground in the region experienced several inches of snow on Thursday afternoon.
The Yorkshire Dales and parts of Teesdale both saw snow settling in places.
Road conditions in the affected places have become slippery and motorists are advised to drive with care.
Areas of the Yorkshire Dales around Hawes saw at least two inches of snow settling, while upper Teesdale was also been particularly affected.
The Met Office has warned wintry showers will continue overnight into Friday with ice expected on untreated surfaces.
About 1cm to 3cm of snow is expected to accumulate on hills, with more than 6cm expected on areas above 400m.
Some of the heaviest showers could produce slushy conditions even at low levels.
