THE DAUGHTER of a talented artist who tragically died in her sleep is hoping her mothers’ work will continue to raise money for charity.

Josie Stockdale was planning to sell her knitted products at Bedale Christmas Festival this Saturday.

But on September 9, the 74-year-old, who lived in Aiskew, Bedale, passed away in her sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Her husband, Tony and their daughter, Debbie, will now be running the stall in her memory.

All the money raised from the sale of Josie’s work will go towards Herriot Hospice Homecare and the Blue Cross animal rehoming centre in Thirsk.

Josie was a prolific knitter and a popular pastel artist. She sold in Britain and abroad and won awards, including best painting at the Great Sheffield Art Show some years ago.

Items for sale on Saturday will include scarves, stoles, shawls, hats and gloves made from baby alpaca, merino wool, silk, cashmere and cotton. Patterns include vintage Shetland lace and other heirloom designs.

Debbie added: “I am looking forward to showing everyone her work and letting people know what a wonderfully talented mother I have. She would be so very pleased to know that we are raising money for these two great charities. It was in her nature to care.

“Last year mum made £200 at the festival but we have an even bigger table this year so we are hoping to do even better this time.”

The Bedale Christmas Festival will take place on Saturday, November 19 from 10am-3pm at Bedale Hall and Market Place.
