A NEW group bringing together people in the Dales to sing, play instruments and enjoy making music has been launched.

Finghall’s Music Cave, between Bedale and Leyburn, is now on the lookout for new members. Run by Kris Yarborough, the aim is to encourage and enthuse present and past musicians.

Mrs Yarborough said: “The aim of this group is to bring people from our locality together regardless of their instrumental or vocal preferences to explore a wide range of musical genres and give people a chance to dip their toe into a style they hadn't realised they could enjoy.

“It is also intended that the members of the group will be able to listen to, enjoy and learn from each other's playing and singing at the sessions and maybe link up with each other to form new duos, trios, band and singing groups. We also hope to have a composers' corner.”

Based in the old Schoolroom at Patrick Brompton, the group has already had an initial event with musician Richard Ormrod.

Mrs Yarborough said: "It was wonderful, 14 people turned up and had a fabulous afternoon. In order to create an exciting springboard, I have approached a number of other highly regarded and talented professional musicians to come and lend their expertise with workshops and recitals.

"I have pledges but will need to confirm dates once I know how many people want to become involved."

The music group, which is open to anyone over 13, will meet on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, with the next session on Saturday, May 14.
