THE family of a man killed in a car accident have spoken of their pride after an apprenticeship was named in honour of their son.

Joe Allan, who was 25 and from Bedale, was killed in an accident on the A1 in August last year.

His former employers, Northallerton-based housing association Broadacres, have now named their electrical apprenticeship the Joe Allan Memorial Apprenticeship in his honour.

And the first to take up the role is Josh Carter, 16, from Stockton, who is one of six young people who have just taken up apprenticeships with Broadacres.

Joe’s mother, Julie, said: “We are very proud and honoured that Broadacres have chosen to name an apprenticeship in Joe’s memory.

“Joe loved his job and he learned so much at Broadacres. Like all apprentices he had to start at the bottom and learn his trade, but the work really inspired him and he was very keen to better himself and move up within the organisation.

“We wish Josh all the success in the future and we hope he goes on to have a very successful career.”

Josh added: “I feel very honoured to have an apprenticeship named after Joe and I hope I can do the job proud.”

The other apprentices are Joseph Elliot in joinery, Kieran Adams in catering, Shona Brown in health and social care, Chloe Shaw in business administration and Zoe Allan in business and finance administration.
