A DAY centre provided festival meals for more than 100 elderly people and raised over £400 with a Christmas fair.

Dales Care in Bedale was set up to help elderly and vulnerable people from the town and surrounding area, and has become a special place for many residents, their families and carers.

Christmas meals were served on two separate days to cope with demand.

Coordinator Wendy Coates said: "We had a lovely time, everyone appreciated the meals and applauded the chef Caren Lance who did a marvellous job. The Christmas meal has become quite a tradition at Dales Care and is very well supported."

Pork pies were presented to every elderly guest by John Gatenby of Vale of Mowbray, a supporter of Dales Care.

The Christmas fair was well supported with craft stalls, a cake stall and tombola, with chairman of the trustees Charles Ropner presenting the winning prizes.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who helps including the Friends of Dales Care and the many volunteers and supporters,” added Ms Coates.
