A BREWER from North Yorkshire has won a prestigious industry award after attaining the highest marks in a nationally recognised qualification.

Dan Miller, second brewer with T and R Theakston, has won the Worshipful Company of Brewers’ Livery Award after passing his General Certificate in Brewing examination with flying colours. He will be presented with his award by the Master Brewer at a ceremony being held in London next April.

Dan, who has worked at the Masham brewery for a decade, said: “I’m thrilled to win this national award. Even though I suspected I had done well in the examination, this has come as a wonderful surprise.

“The exam covered every aspect of the brewing process, and I put my success in the test down to what I have learned here at Theakston’s under head brewer Mark Slater.

“Having successfully passed this qualification, I am now going on to study for the General Certificate in Brewing, which will take three years to complete.”
