A 23-year-old is appearing in court this morning in the wake of a serious assault which left a Richmond man in a critical condition.

The accused will be appearing before magistrates in Northallerton accused of wounding with intent.

A 38-year-old woman who was also arrested after the incident near Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday night has been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries.

The victim, a local man in his 40s, remains in the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, in a critical condition.

He suffered a serious head injury when he was assaulted near to the entrance to the theatre sometime between 11.10pm and 11.25pm on Saturday, April 25.
