A NURSERY is building links with its community after visiting local producers to make their own treats for a family party event.

Incy Wincy’s Nursery in Bedale organised the event to celebrate its town and get children involved with groups and businesses.

A spokeswoman from the nursery said: “Our approach is to provide children with a nursery in the heart of the community, and we use all local sources for food and learning experiences.

“We buy all our meat from Cockburns butchers, who made some ‘Gruffalo’ sausages – filled with cranberry and mustard - designed by children from the Dragonfly group following a sausage-tasting mission during a recent visit.

“We had a delivery of snow for the children to play in and build snowmen which was lots of fun, and Big Sheep Little Cow provided William the donkey and two sheep for children to meet.

“Bedale Community Bakery also held bakery classes for the children to help them bake rolls for the sausages and soup, and this went so well it has led to us introducing seasonal bakery classes.”

The nursery has several events in the coming months including a Valentines breakfast, an afternoon tea party in the garden for Mother’s Day, and an Easter egg hunt.

Prospective families are welcome to call at the nursery during opening hours, Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6pm, and there is an open day on Saturday, March 14, from 10am until noon. Call 01677-425550.
