A HOSPITAL chaplain from Bedale has been appointed to the position of County president for the St John Ambulance in North Yorkshire and Teesside.

Rev Philip Carrington, joined the service in 1996 as County Chaplain for Cleveland and then for the amalgamated county covering North Yorkshire and Teesside, gaining a good knowledge of the whole area.

“I had the privilege of being involved in the dedication of the new county headquarters at Thirsk and the training centre in Middlesbrough, York and Skipton and more importantly I had the opportunity of working with the members, the volunteers and paid staff throughout the county,” said Rev Carrington.

He was presented with the MBE for his service as a full-time hospital chaplain in 2003. Having moved to Guernsey in 2006 he was made Commander for St John.

Returning to North Yorkshire he takes over as County President on the retirement of Elise Mackinlay.

He added:”I look forward to the opportunity of supporting, encouraging and championing the members, volunteers and staff of the St John County North Yorkshire and Teesside locally and nationally.”
