A VILLAGE with a population of about 500 has re-lived the day thousands of Tour de France fans, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry visited.
Residents of West Tanfield, near Masham, packed into the village hall this week to view an exhibition about the event and buy copies of a commemorative book.
Hambleton District Council has produced a 60-page Le Tour de Tanfield souvenir, featuring images of the event.
Profits from the £10 book, which also includes a CD of images, will be donated to the West Tanfield Fund, a charitable organisation seeking to help the community.
Resident Stef Bennett, who organised the celebrations, said: "On July 5, West Tanfield became the largest small village in the world, we witnessed an amazing sporting event and hosted the first ever Royal visit to the parish.
“We had an incredible time, not just the day of the tour ,but for the whole weekend.
"It is an event I will remember for the rest of my life, a small community came together to pull off a massive event.”
The book is on sale at West Tanfield Post Office and at the council’s Civic Centre, in Northallerton.
