A BOOK festival is taking readers on a journey with this year's event which includes crafts, walks and author talks.

The Ryedale Book Festival has chosen the theme Journey for the weekend of events from June 29 to July 1 in Malton.

Events are being held at The Friends Meeting House, Malton, The Old Lodge and a free event for children in Malton Library.

Activities include a mobile-making workshop with artist Lu Mason, a town trail and a six-mile walk along the edge of the Wolds down to Scampston Park, where Malton Show is taking place.

There will be a coffee morning event with best-selling author and life coach Toni MacKenzie, and a special dinner is being held on Friday evening at The Old Lodge, with two award-winning war-correspondents, Christina Lamb and Emma Jane Kirby, who have both written acclaimed books about the refugee crisis.

Proceeds from the event will go to supporting the work of the Refugee Council in North Yorkshire.
