A PEDESTRIAN was killed after being hit by a car on the A59 near Skipton just after 11pm on Saturday night.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police were called out to the busy road, near to The Bull pub at Broughton, at 11.12pm after an orange-coloured Vauxhall Corsa, travelling away from Skipton, struck the 29-year-old man, who was from the Keighley area.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 31-year-old man from the Barnoldswick area, was left shaken but unhurt, and one passenger in the car was treated for minor injuries.

The A59 was closed until 5.30am on Sunday morning to allow police to examine the scene and conduct inquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who stopped and helped at the scene, to contact them.

They are also asking for anyone who saw either the vehicle or the pedestrian, who was wearing a suit at the time of the incident, before the collision in the area of The Bull pub, to also call 101, select option one and pass the information to the Force Control Room.
