A PROJECT to open previously hidden parts of Durham Cathedral has been shortlisted for a regional architectural award.
The cathedral’s Open Treasure exhibition, which houses some of its collections, is one of 12 buildings shortlisted for the RIBA North East awards.
The Roker Pier restoration in Sunderland was also shortlisted.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Museum Gardens, York, on May 24.
Tim Bailey, RIBA North East chairman, said: “The inclusion of new build, conservation and refurbishment work, projects at large and small scales and in urban, suburban and rural settings illustrates the value and impact that great design can bring to any setting and all communities.”
Twelve buildings have been shortlisted for RIBA North East (Royal Institute of British Architects) Awards 2018; the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at The Museum Gardens, York on Thursday 24 May.
