BRITAIN'S highest pub is cementing its relationship with a national home improvement company by hosting the launch of a major new charitable initiative.

The Tan Hill Inn, high in the Yorkshire Dales has featured in a series of TV ads for Everest double-glazing over the years, first featuring farmer Ted Moult and later broadcaster Craig Doyle.

And later this month Craig will be returning to the pub for the launch of the Everest Lewis Golden Foundation.

Named after one of the company's founders - who died last year - it will provide financial support to those striving to achieve their ambitions and be the best they can.

Marketing director Martin Troughton said:“Lewis Golden established Everest back in 1965, building a foundation from which the best double glazing company in the UK would grow.

"We at Everest are enormously proud that his inspiring legacy of success and philanthropy will live on through the foundation.”

He added: “The Tan Hill Inn was the obvious choice for us, as over the years we’ve come to consider it our spiritual home.

Among those at the launch will be ex-serviceman Leslie Binns, who was sponsored by the company in his second attempt to climb Mount Everest, having famously abandoned his first attempt just 500 metres from the top to save the life of a fellow climber.
