STUDENTS at Bedale High School enjoyed an inspirational day with three times British Champion shot putter Scott Lincoln.

Scott, who lives in Brompton, Northallerton, delivered a motivational assembly and then led several circuit sessions with students designed to encourage participation, health and personal development as part of the “inspired through sport” programme.

Headteacher Tony Rawdin said: “we have lots of outstanding students here at Bedale and whilst we expect a lot of hard work, we also encourage all students to play sport and stay fit and healthy. Scott shared some very positive messages about commitment and positive attitude.”

Coming off the back of a successful winter training regime, Scott, who is also twice indoor British Champion, is working hard to progress.;

Martin Burgess, head of key stage three and a PE teacher who helped to arrange the visit, said: “Scott proved to our students that you can achieve almost anything through hard work and a desire to be the best that you can be.”

Students also raised sponsorship money for the inspired through sport programme to help fund athlete training and school sports equipment. Year seven pupil Alfie Whyte raised £150 for the scheme.

Mr Rawdin added: “The school has been going through a period of rapid improvement and we are keen to do everything possible to inspire and motivate our students.”
