SCHOOLCHILDREN turned creative in a fight against dog fouling with the help of animal experts.
Pupils from Appleton Wiske Primary School welcomed Dave Granger, Hambleton’s dog warden, and Alison Gray, from the Dogs Trust.
The children learned about the diseases carried in dog mess and were told how to be a responsible owner.
They designed more than 80 posters highlighting the anti-social behaviour which were judged by the speakers.
The winning posters have been reproduced and will be put up on the streets around the school.
Councillor Stephen Watson, Hambleton District Council's portfolio holder for leisure and environment, said: “I congratulate the youngsters for doing this. Unfortunately it’s the irresponsible few dog owners who let the side down and they need to know that they run the risk of a heavy fine if they are caught.”
- Anyone caught dog fouling may be issued with a fixed penalty notice for £50, and failure to pay could lead to a fine of up to £1,000. For more information call the council on 01609-779977.
