A MOUNTAIN rescue team that covers a vast swathe of the rural region has added to its life-saving equipment thanks to a generous donation.

York-based Touchdown Offices Limited, part of the Communicate PLC group, has donated £3,000 to the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team.

The team provides search, rescue and event cover across the North Yorkshire Moors, coastline and further afield and responds to an average of 80 incidents each year.

The donation will be used to buy new equipment and the team’s incident controller, Ian Hugill, said: “Updating equipment is a necessity for the rescue team to ensure we can cope with the vast number of incidents and Touchdown’s donation will be a huge help towards purchasing new equipment to deliver our ever-demanding workload.”

Danielle McLeod of Touchdown added: “Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team continue to provide an invaluable service to those in and around North Yorkshire.

"Working with the team has given us an insight into the varied tasks the team undertake."
