A CAR and a lorry were involved in a collision on the A19 yesterday evening.

The road was closed while emergency crews attended the scene of the accident, which happened at about 6.40pm on Monday on the southbound route between Knayton and South Kilvington in North Yorkshire.

Firefighters had to cut a man free from his car following the collision by removing the car door using hydraulic cutting gear and small tools.

Crews from Northallerton, Ripon and Thirsk were called to the scene. Diversions were put in place during the rescue and clean-up operation.
