AN intrepid mum and daughter team have successfully reached the summit of the highest peak in the British Isles, raising £2,750 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Bridget and Grace Clark, from Pickering, completed the 1,345m ascent to the top of Ben Nevis in just three hours after a rigorous six-month training programme. The descent took the pair a further two hours.

Grace, 15, began fundraising with her mum last year as a way of paying tribute to her grandad Peter Robinson and family friend Ros Court, who both lost their lives to cancer.

Peter was 73 when he passed away from bowel cancer in November 2009, just 13 months after being diagnosed. Ros, 70, was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in June 2015 and died in February 2016.

Bridget and Grace completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in July last year, raising more than £2,300 for the charity.

They also climbed Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, as part of their training, and then went on to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest point.

Bridget said: “It was challenging but we had frequent short breaks and enjoyed the scenery. We even saw a rare snow bunting. On the way back down we were treated to the most magnificent views."
