AN RAF officer is swapping the world of jets for some rather more down-to-earth transport.

Squadron Leader Alfie Hall, based at RAF Leeming, is taking to two wheels and will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, for charity.

Alfie, of Royal Auxiliary Air Force 607 Squadron, is no stranger to cycling having completed the epic journey once before in 2012.

With a 20kg bike to consider, 54 year old Alfie aims to complete the 1188-mile journey in just 10 days.

Setting off from Land’s End on July 1st, he is undertaking the exhausting trip entirely unsupported, taking all of his food and water with him.

Alfie has been an RAF Reservist for 20 years and said: “I’m delighted to be raising money for the RAF Benevolent Fund. I’ve seen the work that they undertake, and it really does make a difference.

"This is a personal quest for me, but to be able to help the RAF family in the process is a wonderful bonus.”

The charity's regional director, Mark Quinn, said: “Alfie is really going the extra mile for us with his challenge. He claims he’s no keen cyclist, but to take on something of this magnitude really is something special."

Alfie is hoping to raise more than £500 through his ride. To help him reach his target and donate, visit the website justgiving.com/fundraising/alfie-hall3
