A GREEN-FINGERED husband and wife team have been inspired to write a recipe book based on produce grown in their own garden.

Martin and Jill Fish first worked together to formulate and tour a talk entitled 'Gardening on the Menu'.

The success of that talk led to many people pressing the couple to write a book on the theme and now they have published their first joint book, taking the same title as the talk.

Mr Fish explained: "In the book I cover growing a selection of fruit and veg and Jill follows on with recipes and easy, quick-cook tips.

"The book is based in our North Yorkshire garden near Thirsk and is very much a hands-on, easy to read, practical guide, with plenty of colourful images."

The book contains a guide of more than 25 different fruits and vegetables to grow in the garden, with over 100 tried and trusted, easy to follow recipes and quick-cook dishes.

Mr Fish, who is a professional horticulturist, garden writer and broadcaster, has drawn on more than two-decades of gardening experience to produce the book.

Mrs Fish has been a food writer and blogger for over ten years as a result of cooking a toffee apple pie for the editor of a garden magazine who was visiting their garden.

He was so impressed he immediately offered her the job of cookery writer for the weekly magazine.

The couple will be launching their 'Gardening on the Menu' book at the White Rose Book Shop in Thirsk on Saturday, June 17 from 10am to noon where some of Mrs Fish's Jill recipes will be on offer to sample.
