INVITING a few friends round for a cup of tea and a chat to promote Fairtrade made a ton of cash for a school campaign.

As part of their Fairtrade fortnight Leyburn Community Primary School held a Special Brew-Up and Big Cuppa Event. With a hamper donated by Tesco and the Leyburn Cooperative Store contributing tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, the youngsters at the school spent the afternoon preparing to receive their guests.

In the event a large group of parents, grandparents and friends spent an hour after school enjoying drinks and food supplied by the young servers, raising £100 for the Fairtrade campaign.

Headteacher Sarah Beveridge said: “This all ties in with work we are doing in relation to global awareness and our Fairtrade fortnight. The money we made will be given to support the campaign.”
