A FUND set up in memory of a man who drowned while trying to save his dog has now raised around £20,000.
Andrew McGeown died after he plunged into the water to reach his dog while walking on the beach at Scarborough two years ago.
And the fund set up by his grieving family to raise money for sea safety awareness has now doubled its original target and is still growing.
“Andrew’s legacy is bigger than the family ever imagined,” said Tina Boden, the fund’s chair.
The money has come in as donations and from a host of challenging and quirky fundraising activities - from princess parties to memorial rugby matches.
So far the money has funded the RNLI’s first Swim Safe programme for children in Scarborough, as well as providing improved safety signs on the town’s beaches.
